Several Pre-Conference Workshops are being proposed for attendees:
There are several exciting workshops available that
will interest colleagues in South Africa and also for those coming to the Iassid
Conference from Overseas.
Communication
(click here) - Persons with intellectual and communication disabilities:
making communication work. The workshop will introduce participants to the use
of pictures to improve a person's understanding about unfamiliar or difficult
events.
Multiple
Disability (click here) - Persons with profound intellectual
and multiple disabilities: The forgotten citizens of the world. The workshop
is to demonstrate ways that will convince delegates that individuals with PIMD
are able to develop, to communicate, to enjoy life, in short: to be a citizen
of this world.
Parenting
(click here) - This Roundtable, hosted by the SIRG on Parents
and Parenting with Intellectual Disabilities will provide the opportunity for
researchers, practitioners and families to come together to share up to date
knowledge about parenting and discuss the way forward to ensure parents with
intellectual disabilities and their children are recognized and supported.
Quality
of Life (click here) - The workshop is an examination across
the lifespan of wellbeing and quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities
and their families
The ARMIDILO workshop (Assessment of Risk and Manageability
for Intellectually Disabled Individuals who Offend) has been cancelled.
Dr. Boer may be presenting the ARMIDILO workshop in South Africa in 2009. If
you are interested in attending a two day workshop at low or no cost, please
let him know directly at drdoug@waikato.ac.nz.
