Untitled Document Guidance for Special Issues

The Journal of Policy and Practice in Intellectual Disabilities (JPPID) welcomes the organization and submission of special issues on topics of relevance to the Journal's readership. The Journal recommends that one or more individuals serve as the editor or co-editors of the special issue. The issue should be a collection of from 5 to 8 papers (totaling no more than 100 manuscript pages [8.5 x 11 or A4; double spaced]) linked to a common theme addressing policy or practice in intellectual disability.

The editor of the special issue is responsible to:
1. Obtain the contributions, submit them for peer review, provide editorial direction, and accept or reject manuscripts using the same criteria as used by the Journal.
2. Confer and work in concert with the editor-in-chief of the Journal or a designated Senior Editor of the Journal to ensure that the manuscripts being accepted and used in the special issue fit the requirements of the Journal and complement its mission and function.
3. Prepare an editorial or brief lead-in article to the special issue which frames the issues addressed in the special issue, explains the choice of the articles comprising the issue, and offers background on the topic addressed.
4. Eliminate overlap in the literature reviews and background sections of the manuscripts.
5. Ensure all citations and references adhere to APA (5th Edition) standards.
6. Comply with submission timetables and deadlines.
7. Aid the publisher's editorial staff with page proofs, queries, and other production requests.

Topics appropriate for special issues include those of broad interest to the Journal's readership and involve a synthesis of research reports, experiential outcomes, and/or analyses of a topic that offers new insight into the topic.

Persons interested in submitting a special issue to the JPPID should submit a brief note identifying the topic and issues to be covered in the special issue, listing the contributions and the potential timeframes, and justifying the relevance of the topic to the goals and purpose of the Journal.

Communications regarding a special issue should be sent to:
