The IASSID Council established the Research Center membership to encourage the participation of employee-based research centers and related organizations in the Association. This type of membership is designed to increase direct communication between the IASSID and scientists and scholars who are involved in the scientific aspects of intellectual disabilities.
The IASSID maintains the Research Center membership category to encourage the participation of research institutes, programs and centres in the Association's activities. The benefits of membership include:

involvement on NGO (non-governmental organizational) activities with the World Health Organization, United Nations and other disability-related international bodies
subscription to the IASSID Newsletter and postings on the IASSID international website in 2009
gratis subscription to the Journal of Policy and Practice in Intellectual Disabilities
dedicated listserv for research and funding interests
reduced group registration fees for IASSID-associated meetings (some restrictions apply)
international networking among research centres
participation in special project and multi-site research endeavors
designated individual membership

Membership

Membership is open to all employee-based research institutes, foundations, programs and centers involved in training/ education, basic and applied research, practice and social/health work, and public policy and advocacy involving intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Fees during 2009 are US $125 per year or $245 for two years.

Research centers are eligible to designate an "individual member" to IASSID at no extra cost. The "designated member" has the same privileges to membership within IASSID as a FULL member ("FU" category). Designated members may be appointed to IASSID Council, participate in the leadership of SIRGS, and receive discounts and other member benefits. Designated members may also enter a subscription to JIDR -- in their name -- for an additional annual payment of US$65. To enter a subscription to JIDR, enclose the additional payment at the time of the Research Center payment, either via email, fax or post.
