IASSID Membership
The following information describes the different types of IASSID members. IASSID memberships are available in three categories - for individuals, research and service institutes, and membership organizations. Until 1995, the IASSID was almost exclusively composed of scientific associations from countries worldwide. Since then, two new categories of memberships have been established – individual memberships and research center memberships.

Association Memberships
The IASSID association membership is made up of membership associations from the scientific and services community. Such associations contribute heavily to the IASSID Council, or the governing body of the Association. For information on joining IASSID as an association member, contact the IASSID secretary, Dr. Helene Ouellette-Kuntz [email protected] f or a list of current association members go to Associations.

Research Center Memberships
The IASSID Council established the Research Center membership to encourage the participation of employee-based research centers and related organizations in the Association. This type of membership is designed to increase direct communication between the IASSID and scientists and scholars who are involved in the scientific aspects of intellectual disabilities. For information on joining IASSID as a Research Center go to Research Center Membership.

IASSID Individual Membership
The IASSID maintains an individual membership category to encourage the participation of individuals in the Association. This type of membership is designed to increase direct communication between the IASSID and scientists, scholars, practitioners, advocates, and persons with disabilities and their families who are involved in the scientific aspects of intellectual disabilities. The 2004 benefits of individual membership include:

- Subscription to the Journal of Intellectual Disability Research (JIDR)
- Subscription to the Journal of Policy and Practice in Intellectual Disabilities (JPPID)
- Subscription to the IASSID Newsletter and access to member section of website
- Reduced registration fees at the IASSID World Congress and associated meetings
- Discounts to a variety of publications and journals
- Association with one or more of IASSID’s special interest research groups (SIRGs)
- Membership directory and networking information

Membership is open to all persons involved in education, research, practice, administration, and advocacy involving intellectual disabilities.
