IASSID AFFINITY GROUP ON 'SOCIAL INTEGRATION' OF PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES (AGSI)

This Affinity Group is part of the IASSID, and aims at an open exchange of views on and research results regarding the social integration of people with intellectual disabilities.

Researchers from various disciplines are welcome to take part in exchange related to the conceptualisation of social integration and to research on conditions and processes that encourage social integration of people with intellectual disabilities on the interpersonal, social and societal level.

The Affinity Group on Social Integration (AGSI) will seek to prepare symposia on current state of the art research work at IASSID events. Between IASSID events, the group's activities will include e-mail discussion, co-ordinating and starting activities, sharing of ideas and resources and dissemination of information. Until further arrangements are made at a meeting at the Cape Town congress in August 2008 the group will be moderated by Herman P. Meininger, professor of ethics and social inclusion at the Willem van den Bergh Chair of the VU University of Amsterdam and Frank A. Renders, doctoral student in social and cultural anthropology (KULeuven, Belgium) and research fellow at the Willem van den Bergh Chair.

We invite all persons active or interested in the topic of social integration of people with intellectual disabilities to make themselves known by e-mail to Frank A. Renders.
